London's best kept secret what do all the tourists miss out?
There are so many things that people miss in London.
One of the great ones is the banqueting house on Whitehall where King Charles I stepped through one of the windows to have his head chopped off. The ceiling is painted with masterpiece's by Rubens of King James I. Across the street are a couple of guards sitting on horses, so naturally all the tourists waste their time looking at them instead.
The National Gallery is free and loaded with masterpieces. It stands right in Trafalgar Square, but not many people go in there, for some reason. The best secrets in there are the clean bathrooms.
The Cheshire Cheese pub is 350 years old, just off Fleet Street near Blackfriar's bridge. The beer and food are cheap and the place is pretty interesting.
The Monument has a great view from the top. You can walk up it for only 2 pounds. Save yourself the bore of taking the London Eye.
The whispering gallery in St. Paul's, up in the dome is really cool. You can sit clear across the dome from your friend and hear each other's whispers because of the shape of the wall. Further up the stairs, there is a trap door on the floor that now has a piece of cardboard taped over the middle. If you lift the cardboard, you'll see there is a window in the door that peers all the way down from the top of the dome to the floor of the cathedral– makes you jump off the trap door in a hurry.
The bridge over the lake in the middle of St. James's Park has a terrific view of Buckingham Palace and the rooftops of Whitehall at night. Not many people can be found there enjoying that special spot.
There are many more that I can't think of right now…
